More points for James at Donington

James continued his good start to his rookie season in the British Supersport Championship with two more point-scoring finishes at Donington Park, a track he had so much success at last season in the British Junior Supersport Championship.

Qualifying

After the two free practice sessions on Friday, James’ combined classification saw him go into Q1 for Saturday’s qualifying.

Competing against 27 other riders the top 11 James finished the 15-minute session with the fourth quickest lap time and second in the British Supersport class. Although he had done enough to get into Q2 it became a race against the clock after he tipped off at Goddards on the very last lap of Q1. The Completely Motorbikes Triumph rider picked up his motorcycle and began to wheel it back to the pits.

James Q2 started late as his machine was having minor repairs and passing scrutineers before he was back on track in the closing stages of the session. He managed to record the 17th-best lap time in the British Supersport class although would start 22nd on the combined GP2 grid.

Sprint Race (12-laps)

Although windy the spectators enjoyed bright sunshine for the first British Supersport race of the weekend.

With an issue for one rider meaning they didn’t make the grid James was elevated one position at the nstart.

The number 14 of James was enjoying his race as he made steady progress throughout the 12-laps. Although he was not involved in a battle at the end of the race he crossed the line in a best-season finish, so far, of 11th position.

Feature Race ( 18-laps)

James McManus said, “Very happy with the progress I made with the Completely Motorbike’s Triumph this weekend at Donington, every session I went quicker and felt more confident, looking forward to Knockhill now and hopefully carry this momentum on.”

The fourth round of the British Supersport championship is from 16 – 18 June at Knockhill in Scotland.
